"Normal" Ozeki who never
became Yokozuna |
Ozeki who were elevated to the
rank of Yokozuna |
Very strong Ozeki who
would have become Yokozuna by modern standards (e.g. they won two or more consecutive yusho as Ozeki), but were denied this honor because they lacked a powerful warlord as "sponsor." |
"Kanban" Ozeki - "Guest
Ozeki", big strong looking local lads who were only brought in (usually only for one tournament) to draw local crowds, and would never have become Ozeki in modern times, with the exception of a few rikishi like Tanikaze and Raiden. |
Ozeki who were originally
brought in as "Kanban" rikishi, but who stayed in Sumo for more than one basho - probably because they displayed good sumo skills. Some of them later even won one or more yusho. |
Former Ozeki who are still
active as rikishi, and could therefor still return to the rank of Ozeki. |
Current Ozeki, who will be
listed as such on the next Banzuke (Aki 2021) |
Makuuchi records are displayed in the following manner: Wins-Losses [yasumi, draws, azukari, other draws] (winning average) y=yasumi (absences) d=draw (stopped) a=azukari (undecided) od=other draw |
Please note that all rikishi are listed under
their last Shikona as active rikishi, and not necessarily under the Shikona they had or assumed upon Ozeki promotion. |
